1939, Stanley and Mildred Rosenbaum commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright
to design their home, the only Wright-designed structure
in Alabama. One of the earliest Usonian designs, the house has been
called one of the purest examples of Wright's unique style.

Children's Museum of the Shoals
The
Children's Museum of the Shoals, Inc. offers hands-on exhibits and
programs geared specifically to the developmental stages and
needs of children. Our mission is to further classroom education
and compliment existing cultural and educational resources. Exhibits
and activities will encourage children to imagine, make choices
and create. These exhibits will enable children to discover different
cultures, values and occupations, as well as to demystify science,
technology and the arts.

Spring Park
Provides a picturesque
setting for various events such as the Helen Keller Festival,
Indian Festival, Memorial and Labor Day Celebrations. The Big
Spring, located in the Park, provided the site in 1815 for the
original settlement of Occocoposa (Cold Water), later named Tuscumbia,
for a Native American chieftain, Tash-ka-ambia. Historic Marker,
play equipment, picnic tables, pavilions, restrooms.

W.C. Handy Home and Museum
W.C.
Handy, Father of the Blues, was born in Florence. His home was
restored and now houses memorabilia, musical instruments, and
original manuscripts from some of his works.

Pope's Tavern and Museum
constructed
over 150 years ago. Now a museum, the Pope's has functioned as
a tavern, stage coach shop, and a confederate hospital.

Kennedy-Douglas Center for the Arts
The cultural center for Florence, Kennedy-Douglass Center for
the Arts is a gallery, an educational facility, a museum, and
a center for the coordination and promotion of cultural activity
throughout the Shoals.

houses artifacts dating back some 10,000
years of the native Americans history.

Pettus Museum
The Pettus Museum is located in Killen, Alabama
on US Highway 72, East of Florence. A lifelong passion for history
and collectibles has resulted in this incredible display of local
and world history.

Alabama Music Hall of Fame
The
Alabama Music Hall of Fame was a dream and goal of the Muscle
Shoals Music Association, a Shoals area based professional organization
of recording studio owners, producers, musicians, songwriters
and other music professionals. In 1980, through their efforts,
the State legislature, with the leadership of State Senator Bobby
Denton, created a state agency, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame
Board, with a mandate to honor all of this state's great music
achievers, and to build a facility in which to showcase these
talented individuals and their accomplishments.

Belle Mont Mansion

Belle Mont (ca. 1828) is one of Alabama's most distinguished homes,
featuring neoclassical architecture of Jeffersonian-Palladian
style. Owned by the Alabama Historical Commission, on-going restoration.

or by appointment. Admission.

Colbert County Courthouse

This stately building, built in 1881-1909, still houses county government and
serves as the centerpiece for the surrounding Tuscumbia National Register Historic
District. The District showcases a large collection of 19th century architecture,
including Tuscumbia Depot (site of the first railroad west of the Allegheny Mountains).

Coon Dog Cemetery

Over 100 coon dogs have been laid to rest in the scenic "Freedom
Hills." Unique headstones and epitaphs pay tribute to man's
best friend. "Troop" was the first dog buried here in
1937. Open daylight hours year round. No admission.

LaGrange College Site & Antebellum

of the first chartered college in Alabama, destroyed during
the War Between the States.
Along with an antebellum cemetery,
the park is dedicated to recreating life on LaGrange Mountain.
Period structures relocated to the park include a log-cabin museum,
country store, the Bonner House Bed & Breakfast Inn, and outbuildings.
Annual events fund on-going restoration and expansion efforts.
Park open daylight hours. Museum open Su 1-4 p.m., or by appointment.

Natchez Trace Parkway
This scenic highway follows the historic route from Natchez, Miss.,
to Nashville, Tenn. In Alabama, the Parkway goes through western
Colbert County. Maintained by the National Park Service, the
two-lane Parkway follows the same route trekked by Native American,
frontiersman Davy Crockett and Andrew Jackson.

This 1920's silent movie house is restored to its Art Deco style,
and is used for community theater. Open for events and by appointment.
